Yellow River is the sixth longest river in the world at 5,464km. Its also the second longest river in Asia.
Yellow River flows west of China from its sources in Qinghai towards Bohai sea at Dongying, Shandong province. It flows through 9 provinces from Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, border of Shaanxi and Shanxi, Henan and Shandong.
China’s Yellow River Conservancy Commission divides the Yellow River into three sections: Tibetan Plateau, the Ordos Loop and the North China plains.
Yellow River is the cradle of Chinese civilisation. Many Neolithic (7,000 BC-3,700 BC), Bronze (3,700 BC-2,700 BC) and Iron Age Sites have been discovered within its drainage basin.
This 3,472 km upper section of the Yellow River flows from its source in Qinghai’s Bayan Har Mountains down to Hekou Town in Inner Mongolia.
